What is a Committee?
A Committee is a dedicated subset of the board. Common examples include Finance, Audit, and Risk Committees. It is often made up of a combination of board members and executives who have delegated authority from the board to meet, discuss, and recommend or make decisions on the board's behalf.
In addition to traditional governance functions, Committees can also be used for specialised groups such as health and safety teams or ad hoc projects, making them useful across many areas of an organisation.
What are the benefits of a Committee?
Some issues require more time and focus than can reasonably be covered during full board meetings. Committees allow boards to delegate specific areas of work, helping improve efficiency and decision-making.
Additional benefits include:
Assigning responsibilities to specialised groups
Managing documents specific to each Committee
Organising Committee meetings separately from the board
Improving productivity and accountability
Can BoardPro Committees be used beyond traditional boards?
Yes. Many organisations use BoardPro Committees for purposes beyond board governance, such as health and safety teams, working groups, or project committees.
This flexibility allows Committees to be tailored to a wide range of organisational needs.
How do I run Committee meetings in BoardPro?
BoardPro provides dedicated Committee accounts that maintain separate workflows for people, meetings, actions, decisions, and documents.
People who are members of a Committee, but not the main board, can only access information for that Committee.
Committees appear as separate accounts beneath your main board and can be accessed from the Boards menu, allowing you to switch between your board and Committee accounts.
Does my Committee have the same features as the board?
Yes. Committees include the same features as your main board, allowing you to manage meetings and between-meeting activities in the same way.
You will notice a few terminology changes, such as Committee Members and Meeting Packs.
Is there any overlap between the board and Committees?
No. Although Committees are grouped under the main board account, they operate independently.
There is no shared content between the board and its Committees, including:
Meetings
Actions
Decisions
Documents
This allows each Committee to manage its own governance activities independently.
Is there a cost for Committees?
Yes. Committee pricing depends on whether your subscription is Commercial or Non-Profit.
How do we add Committees to our subscription?
You can purchase additional Committee licences from Organisation Settings.
For detailed instructions, see Creating and Managing Committees.
How many Committees can we have?
You can purchase as many Committee licences as you require.
Customers purchasing three or more Committee licences may be eligible for discounted pricing.
The Talk to Sales option allows you to book a meeting with our Sales team. Selecting this option closes the licence window without adding or charging for additional licences.
Alternatively, you can contact the Sales team at sales@boardpro.com.
Can we cancel a Committee?
Yes. Committees can be cancelled from the same page where they are added.
How do we share documents between a Committee and the board?
Documents are not shared automatically.
To move a document between a board and a Committee, download it from one account and upload it into the other.
Can everyone access a Committee?
No. Only people who have been granted access to a Committee can open it.
If someone selects a Committee they do not have permission to access, they will receive a message advising they do not have permission to view it.
Why can't I find my Committees?
You may have:
Been added using a different email address, or
Not yet been granted access.
Please check with your Administrator or contact our Customer Success team at support@boardpro.com.
Do I have to add board members to a Committee manually?
No. You can copy people and their Interests from the main board into a Committee using the Import button on the People page.
After importing, grant access by selecting the More menu (three dots) beside the person's name.
Can someone have different access levels across Committees?
Yes. A person can have a different access level for each board or Committee they belong to.
Can I access all my boards and Committees with one login?
Yes. If you use the same email address across all your boards and Committees, you only need to sign in once to access them.
Where can I find all the Committees I belong to?
You can find all your boards and Committees from My BoardPro Dashboard.
Committees appear indented beneath their main board, making them easy to identify and switch between.
You can also access them from the Boards menu.
I am not a member of a Committee and don't know who manages it
Please contact someone who already has administrative access to that Committee, such as the Chair, Administrator, or Board Secretary, and ask them to grant you access.
